“It takes a small town to keep you humble.” – Bess Streeter Aldrich

Oh, I am so excited to share the small town of Silverton, Oregon with you. I have had the pleasure of visiting many times over the last couple of years after my mom, step dad, and youngest siblings moved there. I usually spend much of my time with family while visiting, so I have not been out to wine and dine as much as I would’ve liked to, but I have some suggestions and tips if you ever want to venture down for a weekend getaway in this boutique little community.

The thing I love the most about Silverton is there adorable downtown area. There are many shops, restaurants, and unique buildings. A beautiful creek runs along the back side of some of the buildings, so there is a good chance of enjoying a coffee or cocktail overlooking the beautiful flow of water. I enjoy walking or driving through the neighborhoods and seeing all the creative homes with a vast variety of colors, greenery, and flowers.

Of course, the best part of being in Silverton is spending time with my family, but there are some activities I think you will enjoy too.

Yummy Eats

Gather – This is a stop I make with my mother often, because we love the variety of menu options. Their food is locally sourced and they offer great vegan/vegetarian choices. The beer and wine list is great, too. If you get the pleasure of visiting, I am a firm believer that everyone should try their sweet potato fries. You can thank me later.

Thai Dish Cuisine – Thai food is one of those items I crave all of the time. There is something so comforting about the warm and rich spices. I was craving it the whole time I was at mom’s this last visit and was told repeatedly that this was the place to go! They did not disappoint. I was really happy with their Yellow Curry.

If you want to take a drive to downtown Salem, I was really in love with this place called Taproot. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was cool, and I engaged in great conversation with strangers all night. Definitely my kind of place. I recommend the Brussel Sprouts.

Let’s Drink 🙂

Silverton Wine Bar & Bistro – To be honest, I have only had wine here, but they had a great selection and do flights! It is an adorable setting, with a patio that overlooks the creek and features a nice fire pit.

Main Street Bistro and Coffee – My mom’s favorite place to get a coffee. They make some great lattes! They layout is great too, with large windows and places to sit both upstairs and downstairs. There is a flower shop in the back, so it always smells great in there too.

Apples to Oranges – This is a yarn and tea shop duo. I love how cozy it is and they have a wide variety of teas! You can grab some lose leaf for later, catch up on some knitting (that I don’t do), or work and drink tea from the shop window (which I definitely did).

Walking & Hiking

Silverton Creek Trail – There is a cute walking path along the creek which can be found behind the Silverton Visiting Center. It connects to different parks and is great for a quick walk about town.

Silver Falls State Park – I LOVE this place! There are variations of trails to see the 10 waterfalls, playgrounds for the kids, and some great features at the park’s lodge, including a cafe and history on the park. It is gorgeous and well worth a visit to Silverton, Oregon!

Shellburg Falls – This one is a little harder to get to and may require a vehicle built for off roads. However, if you make it back there, you won’t be disappointing! I enjoyed this trail because you can walk behind the waterfall and we enjoyed playing in the water that flows from the waterfall.

Other things to do

Antique Shopping – The downtown area of Silverton has a variety of antique shops (and other adorable boutiques). This is one of my sister’s favorite past-times when she visits.

The Oregon Garden – This is another one I have not made it to yet, but I purchased my mom a massage here at the spa a few years back and she enjoyed it! They host a number of events that my family has attended and they have great ratings.

Silverton First Friday – On the first Friday of every month, the downtown area opens their doors to celebrate the businesses and community of Silverton.

Silverton Farmer’s Market (open mid May to mid Oct) – Come shop from the local farmers, crafters, and bakers at the Farmer’s Market. This takes place in the Town Square Park on Saturdays from 9 am – 1 pm, in season.

PS – Wanna do some great shopping? I LOVE Shayla Lynn’s Jewelry Store. She makes all of the jewelry and supports other local artists and natural lifestyle supporters.

Fitness

Body Theory – This studio/fitness center is located in the heart of downtown, uses the software MindBody (making it easy to register online), and has a variety of both fitness and yoga classes. I really enjoyed all of my yoga classes I took while I was there and made some new friends! (Follow my new friend @chantalbartonyoga pictured above)

There is another yoga studio in Silverton that I have heard great things about, but I never made it to a class. It is called Gratitude Yoga.

Where to Stay?

As stated before, I always stay at my mom’s house. However, I always walk by a couple of adorable bed and breakfasts on Water St that I would love to stay in! The ones I know of are called Birdwood Inn and Edward Adams House.

I’m sure there are plenty of others, but those are some that I know of!

I know Silverton, Oregon is probably not the top of your list for destinations, but if you are interested in visiting a cute town in Oregon, I highly recommend stopping here! Take a weekend to slow down, enjoy the nature and the unique fragrances of Oregon, and stroll through the adorable downtown area.

PS – If you live in the Silverton area, I have to give a quick shout out to my step-dad, Brian McKee. He owns a contracting business called McKee Home Services, LLC and he does incredible work! He is licensed, bonded, and insured and does everything from painting to drywall to bathroom remodels, carpentry, flooring, and more. He does it all! Give him a call – 503-347-2787 or email him at McKeeHomeServices@yahoo.com.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed my mini tour of Silverton.

Namaste friends, Taryn
